Visiting vessels

Welcome to Exeter’s Heritage Harbour.


This gives you an outline of what to expect when visiting Exeter as a traditional vessel. There are two locks, a swing bridge and multiple lifting bridges, so booking is essential. If you have any queries, let us know.

  • Depth: 1.5m - 3m
  • Max height: 10m

A mast removal crane is available. Please contact us if you have questions regarding these restrictions - we will accommodate where possible.

The River

Topsham

Topsham Quay

There are mooring buoys and potential to moor at Topsham Quay.

There are transport options available to get to Exeter from Topsham including:

  • Bus
  • Train
  • Taxi
  • Cycle path
  • Ferry (to Topsham Lock, to Turf Lock, to Canal Basin: weather/season dependent)

The Canal

Turf Lock

Locking in at the entrance of the canal is tide dependent. The locks are operated by Port Authority staff.
